- Visual network description: suporte à simulação de redes através da autoria gráfica de cenários virtuaisPublication . Azevedo, Jesuino da Costa Serra de; Sampaio, Paulo Nazareno MaiaBy the utilization of network management tools it is possible to obtain a deeper knowledge of how a given network operates, as such allowing its optimization. Currently, there are several networks tools available for this aim, such as monitoring tools, topology building tools, trouble tickets/help desk, and network simulation and analysis tools. Definitely, an optimized management of the network can be provided by the appropriate integration of different tools. Nevertheless, most of these tools are not interoperable (having proprietary code) or are available commercially as closed software packages with a high cost. In this context, there is the need for a common abstraction among different network management tools which allows their communication. In this case, the utilization of a language such as NSDL (Network Description Scenario Language) can be useful. NSDL has been proposed at University of Madeira by the PhD student Eduardo Marques as a common language for the description of network scenarios which allows the interoperability among different network management tools. The main goal of this work is the proposal and the development of a graphical interface for the authoring of network scenarios allowing the automatic generation of NSDL, which can be further applied for the simulation and analysis of these scenarios. One of the main advantages of this tool, beyond its simple and intuitive interface, is the flexibility for customizing objects and their parameters which can be manipulated during the creation of network scenarios.
