Abstract(s)
a veia satírica.
The fist part presents, diachronically, the artistic production of António Aragão (1921- 2008) in the field of visual arts, encompassing his main works of drawing, oil, watercolor, lacquer, sculpture, ceramics or collage and including his public art comissions. Portrait, still life, customs, landscape and a more inventive and free figura tion are mentioned, as well as the multiplicity of his interests, both in the diversity of genres and in the stylistic variations. He has been, in fact, in different moments, close to neo-realism, expres sionism, abstractionism, gesturalism and neo-ex pressionist figuration. Furthermore, this paper enumerates and analyzes the echo of his exhibi tions in the local press. The second part highlights the nexuses and the guiding lines of his journey, such as the oscilla tions between the connection to the island and the appeal of the outside world, between des truction and construction in the creative process, between words and images, between manuality/ materiality and the use of the machine, between the anguished attitude and the satirical vein. The third part summarizes the role of visual arts in the context of his multifaceted artistic pro duction, which is difficult to categorize. Moreover, it alludes to the character of synthesis, but also to the intensity of his latest works.
