Abstract(s)
positiva.
Dada a
Mental health in university students has, over time, raised serious concerns in society. Given that the transition phase to Higher Education marks a crucial point in the lives of these young people, it is often accompanied by significant changes that make them vulnerable to the development of psychopathologies. Considering these concerns, the creation of programs that integrate prevention strategies and promotion of well-being in higher education institutions is essential to mitigate psychopathological symptoms and increase the well-being of students. The present study was based on the Dual-Continnum Model of Mental Health, which conceptualizes mental health as composed of two interdependent dimensions: the absence of psychopathology and the presence of positive mental health. This model challenges the traditional view that mental health and illness are extremes of a single spectrum, proposing that both can coexist. This research aimed to analyse the impact of the WellBEING UMa project on the mental health of students at the University of Madeira. To this end, a quasi experimental design of a quantitative nature was used, with the application of six instruments completed by the participants themselves. Given the scarcity of comparative research, this study constitutes a relevant contribution, showing how programs that combine psychological support with well-being-promoting activities can maximize the benefits for students' mental health. In addition, we reinforce the need to integrate the two aspects of the model, demonstrating that the promotion of positive mental health is essential both to prevent the emergence and/or worsening of psychopathologies as to foster emotional flourishing.
