O natal madeirense: representações literárias e turístico-culturais

Abstract(s)
Fazem parte da identidade madeirense costumes, práticas e tradições cujas origens parecem remontar aos primórdios da colonização e para cuja salvaguarda muito terá contribuído a insularidade. Na presente dissertação apresentam-se alguns destes usos e costumes típicos na Madeira, mais concretamente na altura em que se comemora o Natal. Esta é uma celebração importante para os ilhéus, e como tal, houve uma visível preocupação de fidelidade às tradições antigas. Através da literatura, constataremos que esta quadra sofreu pequenas alterações nas últimas décadas, pelo menos no que diz respeito ao verdadeiro espírito do Natal Madeirense. De que forma poderá a quadra natalícia oferecer-se como um cartaz turístico? Que motivos de interesse podem oferecer a literatura e a cultura regionais? São questões às quais a metodologia do inquérito, com a análise dos seus resultados, poderá ajudar a responder. Por fim, apresentam-se algumas sugestões de preservação e possíveis ideias para melhorar o turismo regional, criando uma ligação entre a literatura e a cultura, de modo a que ambas façam parte dos cartazes turísticos da Ilha, nesta época que é sinónimo de paz, família e fé.
The Christmas Celebrations are part of the identity of Madeira´ people, customs, practices and traditions whose origins seem to date back to the early days of colonization. The remoteness and insularity contribute significantly to preserve the tradition. This dissertation describes some of these ways and typical customs in Madeira, intimately related to the Christmas periods. This is an important celebration for the islanders, and as such, the preservation of all these traditions is a matter of concern. Through the literature review, we note that this set of traditions experienced only minor changes in the recent decades, at least with regards the “true” spirit of Christmas Madeira. In this thesis we ask: how could the Christmas season offer tourists an extra attraction to be enjoyed? What additional reasons of interest can be provided by the literature and by the regional culture as a whole? These are questions we expect to answer through this thesis. Finally, we present some suggestions and recommendations and possible ideas to improve the dynamics of the regional tourism industry, through the development of a creative link between literature and culture. This is because the Christmas traditions are both part of the cultural events of the island, and a celebration of peace, family spirit and faith.
