Abstract(s)
A criação
In our society it is known that the investments for the promotion of culture are not enough and sometimes news show the need to create more initiatives and give incentives so that the citizen will be interested in culture and will make an effort to truly get to know it. Culture is an abstract concept whose definition is hard to establish but it is known that it includes habits, traditions, and beliefs and so on. A lot of times these are intertwined with garments and costumes. That is, culture flourishes through costumes used by a population in cultural shows or even on a daily basis. The creation of a rental service for costumes and garments for cultural events in Madeira Autonomous Region named Rent a Garment Madeira was created within the curricular unit of Cultural Entrepreneurship. The project will satisfy needs of residents and visitors, offering an environmental friendly method so that individuals can interact with their culture and among each other. Regarding the visitors, they will have a tangible way of learning the traditions and cultural meanings of the local costumes, which will eventually add more value to their touristic experience. The regional culture will be praised and will expand beyond the terrestrial limits of the Island in the memory of the visitor, who had the opportunity to get to know the local habits and the reasons for dressing a certain way. This sustainable service which connects culture and fabrics also has a goal of fighting against textile waste, a serious environmental issue. Firstly, a literary review about the cultural meanings and values a piece of garment can have will be done. There will be talk about some local costumes, its use and maintenance by the responsible entities and the importance of a round economy. Secondly, the application of forms will be developed to ascertain the viability of the business, build a brand and an adequate marketing plan.
