Abstract(s)
O processo de envelhecimento é acompanhado de mudanças físicas, sociais e mentais. A maneira como as incapacidades decorrentes do envelhecimento são aceleradas ou retardadas, depende, em grande parte, dos estilos de vida adoptados ao longo da vida. Os principais objetivos deste trabalho foram: (1) estimar a prevalência de depressão numa amostra de pessoa idosas do estado do Amazonas considerando o género, a idade, a área de residência, o estatuto socioeconómico e o estado civil; (2) investigar as correlações entre o nível de atividade física e a qualidade de vida, e (3) investigar as correlações entre as variáveis anteriores e a depressão. Metodologia: Este estudo enquadra-se no projeto “Saúde, Estilo de Vida e Aptidão em Adultos e Adultos Idosos do Amazonas (SEVAAI)”, com um delineamento transversal, onde foram avaliadas pessoas idosas de 3 municípios: Apuí (n=151), Fonte Boa (n=250) e Manaus (n=300). A atividade física, a qualidade de vida e as variáveis sociodemográficas foram avaliadas através de questionário (entrevistas face-to-face). Resultados: A prevalência de depressão nesta amostra foi de 28.8%. As pessoas idosas que vivem em regiões mais isoladas, assim como aqueles com o estatuto socioeconómico mais baixo apresentam prevalências superiores de depressão (p<.005). Uma correlação positiva foi encontrada entre a atividade física (score total) e a qualidade de vida (.163 > r < .231, p < .001). Verificou-se uma correlação negativa entre o score total de atividade física e a depressão (r < -.230; p<.001). Similarmente, a correlação entre a qualidade de vida e a depressão foi negativa (-.415 > r < .479; p < .001). Conclusões: A prevalência de depressão em pessoas idosas do Estado do Amazonas é elevada e varia em função do local de residência e estatuto socioeconómico. A atividade física está positivamente associada à qualidade de vida, e ambas, negativamente correlacionadas com a depressão.
