Abstract(s)
atividades, além do Festival anual «Sidra Sabores».
Studying the reality and cider culture and its identity in the village of Santo da Serra starts with the observation and analysis of the cider global production. This study aims to set a consistent frame so that its interest can be justified, also a as core issue of Santo da Serra’s identity. On the course of my research I observed that all over some doubts about the origin of the term «cider» remain. This work also comprises ancient times traditions over the world in order for me to be able to move forward regarding my initial aim: to show and enlighten, or underline, some clues on what concerns cider’s true origin in Madeira Island, but at the same time assess whether there is a still remaining cultural identity pertaining to this drink, if ever there was one. Secondly, make sure that the «cider» culture, despite the sparse visibility verified in the Portuguese mainland, was still over various decades, object of great demand mainly in Santo da Serra, a village that has always been seen cultural and touristic reference since the first settlements of population in the Island. The prime goal of this study is to introduce my Project to set in place the Cider Festival: organized by the «Lugar da Sidra»: a business that will become a cider museum, its design based on the shape of old madeiran houses grocery stores, with a traditional apple-presser, and that will serve culture and tradition, among other activities, with the yearly cider festival «Sidra Sabores».
