Abstract(s)
O presente trabalho, intitulado João dos Reis Gomes: Contributo Literário para
a Divulgação da História da Madeira, visa explorar os três romances históricos do
Major João dos Reis Gomes como uma marca contributiva para a divulgação de
referentes históricos atestados na História da Madeira, além da referência e
interpretação dos tempos, então vividos.
A dinâmica literária atingida com os referentes históricos introduz o leitor no
universo das questões políticas e identitárias, como uma das vias interpretativas dos
romances históricos de João dos Reis Gomes.
A envolvência do autor de A Filha de Tristão das Damas, O Anel do Imperador
e O Cavaleiro de Santa Catarina, na formação da tertúlia conhecida como Cenáculo, e
na direção de periódicos (Heraldo da Madeira e Diário da Madeira), levou-o a ser uma
personalidade considerada da vida madeirense da primeira metade do século XX.
Além do contributo para a divulgação da história, a marca das suas obras
romanescas são uma significativa contribuição para a edificação de uma identidade
madeirense, bem como um ensaio interrogativo sobre questões que ainda se podem ver
como atuais.
The present work, entitled João dos Reis Gomes: Contributo Literário para a Divulgação da História da Madeira, intends to explore the three historical novels of Major João dos Reis Gomes as a contributory mark for the dissemination of historical references attested in the History of Madeira, in addition to reference and interpretation of the times, lived then. The literary dynamics achieved with the historical references introduce the reader into the universe of political and identity issues, as one of the interpretative paths of João dos Reis Gomes' historical novels. The involvement of the author of A Filha de Tristão das Damas, O Anel do Imperador and O Cavaleiro de Santa Catarina, in the formation of the cultural group known as Cenáculo, and in the coordination of newspapers (Heraldo da Madeira and Diário da Madeira), took him to be an important personality in the Madeiran life of the first half of the 20th century. Besides the contribution to the dissemination of the History, the relevance of his novels is a significant contribution to the building of a Madeiran identity, as well as an interrogative essay on matters that can still be seen as current.
