- Bridging EU law and design: creating an AI legal support interface with low-code toolsPublication . Bugaeva, Anna; Dionísio, Mara Sofia GomesThis study explores how artificial intelligence (AI) and user experience (UX) design principles can enhance access to justice by improving the usability of online case law databases of international courts, with a particular focus on the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR). Although platforms such as CURIA, EUR-Lex, and HUDOC have made legal information broadly accessible, they are often criticised for limited search functionalities and outdated user interfaces. Adopting an auto-ethnographic perspective, the research investigates how legal professionals interact with these databases and what design and AI-driven solutions could address existing barriers. The project includes the development of an experimental prototype on Replit that demonstrates an AI-based summarisation and interaction model for judicial decisions, aiming to support more intuitive navigation and comprehension. The findings contribute to the ongoing dialogue between law, design, and technology, proposing practical insights for future user-centred and AI-assisted legal information systems.
