- Orientação com crianças dos 3 aos 5 anos de idade, com fotografia aérea oblíqua num espaço ao ar livre: influência da familiaridade com o local e com a orientação desportivaPublication . Barroso, Marisa Daniela Fernandes; Catela, David Paulo Ramalheira; Bento, Teresa Paula Domingues da Cunha; Fernando, Ana Catarina Rocha MendesThis study aimed to investigate the differences between children aged 3 to 5 years old in a outdoors orienteering route, with an oblique aerial photo. Additionally we intended to investigate the differences between the children according to the location or sport familiarity. The sample consisted of 218 children divided into three groups. One group of children unfamiliar with the location or the sport (n = 107), another only familiar with the location (n = 104) and another group only familiar with the sport (n = 7). The task was presented as a "treasure hunt" game where children would have to find four control points. To obtain data on the route characteristics children transported a global positioning system, a timing system and a camera. Results show that increasing age also increases orienting ability and that familiarity with location accentuates the difference between ages especially between 3 to 5 years old. Children who are familiar with the sport are more likely to perform more efficiently in unknown locations. Children unfamiliar with the location or with the sport had lower guidance capacity and significantly differ from those children familiar with the location. Location or sport familiarity influence was not observed in children aged 3 years old who have achieved all checkpoints. In this study experience seems to determine the abilities of an individual perception to apprehend the environment structures for better orientation.
