As societies have developed, there has been an increase in life expectancy among both women and men, and although this has occurred at different rates, average life expectancy continues to rise. However, the construction of the meaning of old age is permeated by beliefs, myths, and prejudices that, in the social context, manifest themselves through derogatory representations of the aging process, highlighting the need to promote critical reflection on intergenerational education as a strategy to combat ageism in society. As it functions as a socio-educational vehicle, it also serves as a key element for community development by fostering social cohesion, intergenerational dialogue, and the strengthening of social bonds. This research aims to understand the phenomenon under analysis using a case study as its methodology, highlighting its potential for practical application in human contexts and everyday situations. The objectives are thus to assess the impact of these programs on the transformation of social attitudes, which will be based on semi-structured interviews and participant observation, using field notes as a tool that includes the analysis of participants’ perceptions and the evaluation of previously implemented initiatives. This study found that the generational gap occurs due to a lack of openness to communication and understanding between both parties involved. This stems from a distorted view created by a lack of initiative and dialogue on the part of both young people and the elderly.
