The 21st century is characterized by a lifestyle marked by the acceleration of daily rhythms, increased professional demands, and constant exposure to digital technologies. These factors have had a significant impact on the physical and psychological health of populations, contributing to the exponential rise in the incidence of conditions such as anxiety, depression, cardiovascular diseases, sleep disorders, and other chronic conditions. In this context, a growing concern within the realm of public health has become increasingly evident. In response to this contemporary paradigm, a new type of tourism has emerged: wellness tourism. This model primarily aims at escaping urban environments and reconnecting with nature and rural settings, presenting itself as an alternative that seeks to promote the overall health of individuals—physical, mental, and spiritual. Experiences associated with wellness tourism include activities focused on relaxation and inner balance, such as Spa sessions, alternative therapies, holistic treatments, nutrition programs, physical exercise, and meditation. In the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM), there is a clear shortage of infrastructure dedicated to meeting this growing demand. Within this framework, a proposed intervention seeks to create a distinctive offering that allows visitors to enjoy the natural surroundings of Madeira's landscape, combining it with relaxation and wellness experiences in the island's mountainous areas. The central aim of this initiative is to promote a renewed connection between visitors and nature through an integrated concept of health and wellness tourism, aligned with the wellness segment, highlighting local products, natural treatments, and the region’s cultural traditions.
