As the world becomes increasingly complex and interconnected, the inclusion and academic success of immigrant children have emerged as essential condition for the development of just, cohesive, and inclusive societies. This project aims to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities inherent in the school inclusion of migrant children in primary schools in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. The voice and experiences of migrant children, parents and/or guardians, or legal guardians, public authorities and school principals will shed light on the challenges and opportunities that mark the inclusion process of these children. We will adopt a mixed research methodology, using a case study design and utilizing questionnaires complemented by semi-structured interviews. This study will also incorporate document analysis, and through the intersection of these techniques, we will pursue an intersectorial approach to characterize the process of inclusion of migrant children within the school context. Ultimately, this research seeks to contribute to the inclusion of migrant children by identifying challenges and opportunities and promoting the development of intercultural competencies, pedagogical strategies, and the promotion of effective public policies.
