a diminuição do isolamento e da carência afetiva, promovendo o equilíbrio mental e
emocional.
The current context of the elderly population is characterised by significant demographic growth, resulting from increased longevity and declining birth rates. This scenario creates several social challenges, such as the need for adequate healthcare, the adaptation of urban infrastructure and the promotion of social inclusion for this age group. In this context, private social solidarity institutions are playing an increasingly important role in responding to these challenges, offering specific support and resources to the elderly population through programmes and initiatives aimed at their social inclusion. These programmes include recreational and educational centres, support services, and intergenerational projects that bring young people and older people together, promoting the sharing of experiences and strengthening social and community relationships. The promotion of social inclusion of the elderly by Private Social Solidarity Institutions has multiple advantages, among which the reduction of isolation and emotional deprivation stands out, promoting mental and emotional balance. The purpose of this research was to examine the relevance of private social solidarity institutions in promoting the social inclusion of the elderly population. To this end, a mixed methodology was adopted, centred on a case study as the main approach. Various techniques were used to collect data, including semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, questionnaire surveys and informal conversations, with a view to obtaining more accurate and in-depth information. The results obtained contribute to guiding future practices and policies that reinforce the relevance of Private Social Solidarity Institutions in building an inclusive society and in the daily care of the elderly population. In conclusion, this research seeks to highlight possible paths for building a society based on equity and solidarity, where older people can live with dignity and enjoy active participation in the community.
