Abstract(s)
Parte do estágio decorreu no projeto S4S (Sports for Students) liderado pelo CTM Ponta do
Motor skills are a good predictor of talented young people who may have future success. Therefore, it is important to check which skills are most consistent between each sport to avoid wasting talent and be able to make a good recommendation for the sport for children. In this study, the sport in question is table tennis. It should be noted that talented children can be individuals who learn quickly, which is why it is important to verify the acquisition of skills through training as a factor in predicting talent. The objective of the work carried out throughout the internship was to understand the main characteristics to consider the child a young talent and to understand how their development is carried out through initiation training. Part of the internship took place in the S4S (Sports for Students) project led by CTM Ponta do Sol - identification of talent among primary school children based on the literature review carried out - and part in the Ponta do Sol Table Tennis Club - training introduction to table tennis. Through literature, personal reflection and the experience acquired as a table tennis player, we sought to reflect and identify the characteristics and qualities of the sport. This avoids wasting talent and being able to develop talent in order to achieve success. Research was carried out on the qualities inherent to young table tennis players. According to the results, the specific motor skills of the modality were push-ups, side jumping, among others. Skills such as dribbling speed, aiming at the target and eye/hand coordination encompass the manipulation of objects while controlling a ball. These characteristics are more similar to the exercises performed during specific table tennis training. The impact of this information led to attempts to create and apply a set of exercises that could improve talent acquisition. It was also our objective to improve specific initiation training and provide guidance on the training principles to adopt. In this way, an attempt was made to present a methodological proposal based on learning and developing the capabilities of young athletes.
