Abstract(s)
No contexto do desenvolvimento psicológico,
perante a vida.
With the aging of the population and the increase in the percentage of elderly individuals, it was observed a greater interest in understanding how these individuals are positioned in relation to the current society. In the context of psychological development, there is an increase in studies with objectives such as describing the elderly, their performances, their capacities and the processes necessary to remain socially active. This qualitative study aims to contribute to the characterization and understanding of adult subjects who intend to remain working after retirement age. The sample is made up of 17 individuals (9 males and 8 females), aged between 45 and 60 years old, from various socioeconomic statuses and who are working. Data collection was carried out through the discussion generated in three focus groups in order to understand the decision to work after the retirement age. The results suggest that this group of individuals, in general, demonstrates self-confidence, self determination, autonomy, persistence and efficacy in the face of adversity, enjoy work, have goals, life purpose, demonstrate positive mental attitude and sense of well-being and happiness before the life. In short, a "new population" emerges that breaks with the "social dogmas" about aging in the final stage of life.
