Abstract(s)
Physical activity (PA) linked to the promotion of health and well-being, is preventive of several diseases. It contributes to the physical, psychological and quality of life of the individual (Sousa & Borges, 2016). The lifestyle defined in youth influences all life (Silva, Pereira, Almeida, Silva & Oliveira, 2012). The present dissertation is made up of two studies with the objectives of: (i) characterizing and analyzing the differences between sexes and regions (Madeira and Amazonas) in lifestyle, in the profile of PA, in the nutritional status and perception of university students' involvement Physical Education and Sport (EFD) course; (ii) to analyze the differences between lifestyle tertiles, in the parameters AF, nutritional status, involvement and body composition. A total of 343 subjects (195 males and 148 females) aged 17 to 51 years participated in the first study; university students from the EFD Courses of Amazonas, Brazil and Madeira, Portugal. In a second study, 239 subjects (121 males and 118 females) with a mean age of 26.10 ± 6.12 years. All participants were evaluated through lifestyle questionnaires (Añez, Reis & Petroski, 2008), in the AF profile (Florindo & Latorre, 2003), in the perception of involvement (Malavasi, Duarte, Both & Reis (2007) and in weight, height and waist circumference (Fragoso & Vieira, 2005). Most subjects (57.9%) reported a "very good" or "excellent" lifestyle, with Madeira participants reporting a higher proportion of their quality of life, as well as a more active and lower index of body mass compared to participants in Amazonas (p <0.05). There are different perceptions of the involvement among the participants of both regions (p <0.05). In the second study, it was observed that, regardless of gender, participants with reduced levels of PA had an increased risk of having a more unfavorable lifestyle compared to the more active participants (men odds ratios: 13.19, 95% CI: 3,52449,369 and female odds ratios: 12.51, 95% CI: 2,780-56,337). These results reinforce the influence of multifactors on the concept of lifestyle, however the AF seems to have particular relevance.
