Abstract(s)
seja exposta corretamente.
Birdwatching emerges as a niche product, being increasingly relevant and practiced by many individuals, with strong links to nature. There is a growing interest in Portugal for birdwatching (Mateus, 2018), given its touristic potential. In fact, there is a growing number of tourist entertainment companies offering this service. The interest in this theme arose from the fact that Madeira offers good conditions for the practice of this activity, both due to the richness of the endemism and the subtropical climate. The quality of the landscapes and the tourism sector offer ideal conditions to mix tourism with birdwatching. This dissertation focuses on the analysis of the motivations and conditions faced by tourists potentially interested in the practice. In terms of an empirical approach, this dissertation mixes field visits with the analysis of survey results to a sample of tourists. As a result of this work, it was possible to collect 354 questionnaires. As part of this work, it was paid attention to the typical birdlife in Madeira. The dissertation also seeks to offer a set of recommendations for improving the regional offer. The dissertation is structured as follows: The first chapter offers a brief contextualization of ornithological tourism. A contextual analysis follows with a description of the importance of the tourism sector and the quality of Madeiran birdlife. The next chapter describes the results, followed by the conclusion, where it is possible to conclude that, although the vast majority of respondents do not focus on birdwatching during their stay in Madeira, there is undoubtedly a great interest by them, to try this activity, if exposed correctly.
