Abstract(s)
Posto isto, o
The transition to adulthood is an important moment in the life of any individual and, among other challenges, it implies the enter on the labour market. Getting the first job is an arduous task for everyone, but it becomes even more difficult for the population with intellectual disability, because there are still organizational barriers and prejudice to overcome. Considering that social and socio-professional skills have been increasingly valued in this context, it is critical to develop them with this population, to increase their probability of starting a career at work. Thus, the present study aims to examine whether the intervention program "Sou Capaz – Socio-professional Skills Development Program" promotes the improvement of the socio-professional skills of these individuals, and if these improvements can persist over time. In the current study, a sample of 10 subjects institutionalized in a PISS of Funchal was used. This research was developed following a descriptive case study research plan, using a quantitative approach and a multiple probe design methodology. Two instruments were implemented in order to study the program impact: the Social Skills Inventory (SSI) in an adapted form, and the Professional Social Skills Observation System (PSSOS). The results have shown that the program has contributed to some of the evolution after the intervention, in some socio-professional skills evaluated, still follow up assessments have shown that some of the improvements did not have persisted over time. Therefore, one of the main conclusions is that it is imperative to reflect and optimize the structure of psychoeducational programs for the population with intellectual disability, relying on scientific evidence.
