Neste trabalho, inserido no âmbito do estudo das diferenças individuais, analisamos a relação entre o género e os
interesses profi ssionais, a partir dos dados obtidos com 468 adolescentes portugueses do 9º ano de escolaridade.
Através de análise multivariada de variância, verifi camos um efeito signifi cativo do género nos interesses, com o
sexo masculino a revelar, em média, mais interesse pelo trabalho com coisas (áreas das tecnologias e exterior) e
o sexo feminino pelo trabalho com pessoas (áreas da comunicação, serviços e arte). Apesar de este ser um padrão
semelhante ao que a literatura indica, na área das ciências não foram identifi cadas diferenças. Os resultados são
discutidos sob a perspetiva da necessidade de se considerar o papel do género na tomada de decisão na carreira.
In this study we analyse the relationship between gender and career interests of 468 Portuguese adolescents at the end of 9th grade school. Through multivariate analysis of variance, we found a signifi cant effect of gender on interests, with boys revealing, on average, more interest in working with things (in domains such as technology and outdoor jobs) and girls preferring chiefl y working with people (communication, services, and arts). Although this pattern is similar to what the literature indicates, there were no differences verifi ed in relation to sciences. Results are discussed considering the gender role in career decision making.
