Abstract(s)
Parental burnout can be defined as a state of intense exhaustion related to the parent´s role, in which parents become increasingly emotional distant and start doubting their own parental skills. This state has four dimensions: emotional exhaustion, emotional distancing, saturation and contrast. This investigation aims to stablish correlations between parental burnout and family resilience as well as several sociodemographic variables that the literature recognizes has important to prevent parental burnout. The study was conducted with a sample of 209 individuals, 169 are mothers (79,4%) and 41 are fathers (19,6%), the average age of the participants are 41,19 years old, the oldest participant is 66 years old, and the youngest is 21 years old. The average number of children is 1,82. The evaluation protocol includes one Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Parental Exhaustion Assessment Questionnaire – QAEP, and Walsh Family Resilience Questionnaire -WFRQ. This protocol was created in Google Forms and applied during one month and a half, from April 15th to 25th May of 2021, in social media and other platforms. The results show that there are negative correlations between parental burnout and family resilience, and also that there are differences in the levels of parental burnout between mothers and fathers, although those correlations are not statistically significant. On the other hand there are differences in the level of parental burnout depending on the age of the participants, and the age that they were fathers or mothers.
