Abstract(s)
Desta forma, a presente investigação pretende
Resilience is related to the individuals assemble a set of effective strategies to prevent, overcome or minimize the impact of traumatic events. On the other hand, optimism is related to healthier behaviors and lifestyles, with higher selfesteem and self-efficacy, with greater professional success, with less depression and anxiety, greater general well-being, and satisfaction with life. In this way, the current research intends to study the levels of resilience and optimism in teachers and nonteachers of a basic and secondary school in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (RAM). The sample is non-probabilistic, of convenience and gathered 99 participants, aged between 27 and 64 years. The instruments used were the Resilience Scale (MSR - Measuring State Resilience) adapted and validated for the Portuguese population by Helena Martins (2005) and Barros' Scale of Optimism (1998).The data were analyzed statistically through descriptive, correlational and inferential studies. The results allowed to conclude that: there is a correlation between the variables under study; nonteachers showed a tendency towards greater optimism; individuals with master's degrees have more resilience and optimism; the variables explain 14.5% of the variance of the students' grades; teachers have a tendency to lower levels of optimism and resilience with the Covid-19 pandemic.
