O setor do turismo, tal como as tecnologias digitais, tem vindo a evoluir de forma constante, originando novas formas de interagir com os destinos, tanto na fase de planeamento
da viagem como ao longo da mesma. Considerando este novo paradigma, a presente investigação centra-se na análise das perceções dos turistas que visitaram a Ilha da Madeira
relativamente à implementação de tecnologias digitais avançadas, com destaque para a
Realidade Virtual, Realidade Aumentada e para a Inteligência Artificial. Com vista à concretização deste estudo e com o propósito de responder aos objetivos delineados, recorreu-se a uma abordagem metodológica de natureza quantitativa, materializada através da
aplicação de um questionário aos turistas que visitaram a Ilha da Madeira. A amostra não
probabilística por conveniência resultou em 417 respostas válidas. Os resultados indicaram que a integração de tecnologias digitais avançadas poderá ter um papel determinante
na melhoria da experiência turística, aumentando a satisfação dos visitantes e a sua fidelização ao destino, além de contribuir para um maior reconhecimento da importância da
sustentabilidade no setor.
Este estudo apresenta contributos práticos para o setor turístico, fornecendo recomendações para as entidades governamentais, empresas privadas e profissionais do turismo,
no sentido de reforçarem a aposta em soluções tecnológicas inovadoras que privilegiem
a criação de experiências de viagem autênticas e sustentáveis, respondendo às expectativas e necessidades dos turistas contemporâneos, cada vez mais exigentes e atentos à integração equilibrada entre a sustentabilidade e a tecnologia.
The tourism sector, much like digital technologies, has been constantly evolving, giving rise to new ways of interacting with destinations, both during the travel planning stage and throughout the journey itself. Considering this new paradigm, the present research focuses on analyzing the perceptions of tourists visiting Madeira Island regarding the im plementation of advanced digital technologies, with particular emphasis on Virtual Real ity, Augmented Reality, and Artificial Intelligence. To achieve the objectives outlined, a quantitative methodological approach was adopted, materialized through the application of a questionnaire to tourists who visited Madeira Island. The non-probabilistic conven ience sample resulted in 417 valid responses. The results indicated that the integration of advanced digital technologies could play a decisive role in enhancing the tourism experi ence, increasing visitor satisfaction and loyalty to the destination, while also contributing to greater awareness of the importance of sustainability in the sector. This study offers practical contributions to the tourism sector by providing recom mendations for governmental entities, private companies, and tourism professionals to strengthen their investment in innovative technological solutions. These solutions should aim to create authentic and sustainable travel experiences, meeting the expectations and needs of today’s increasingly demanding and technology-aware tourists, who value a bal anced integration between sustainability and technology.
