Abstract(s)
Objetivo: Este trabalho explora a revitalização e potencialização de vazios urbanos
desperdiçados para habitação de baixo custo para o mercado habitacional europeu de
baixa renda. A escassez e a degeneração dos espaços urbanos contemporâneos são
um desafio emergente para os cidadãos que desejam ter acesso a soluções
habitacionais permanentes, seguras e modernas. A revitalização de espaços urbanos
desperdiçados pode ser a solução para este problema.
Antecedentes: Os vazios urbanos desperdiçados referem-se a vazios de locais
subutilizados, não utilizados e inseguros que podem ser revitalizados com a proposição
de soluções habitacionais especificamente adaptadas ao seu contexto. Tais espaços
podem ser considerados como tendo uma associação negativa e em estado de saúde
debilitada ou “doentes”. Este projeto propõe a remodelação desses espaços doentes
em estruturas de apartamentos residenciais realizadas através de uma construção
modular pré-fabricada que oferece revitalização para a cidade e para os cidadãos. A
proposição de valor de tal proposta de projeto resultará da economia de tempo
(construção pré-fabricada), economia de espaço (otimização de área) e economia de
custos (design eficiente).
Contexto: O contexto do projeto está localizado na Cidade Atlântica do Funchal, Ilha
da Madeira que é uma geografia insular periférica europeia urbanizada de alta
densidade.
Abordagem: Esta tese está estruturada como um estudo de investigação aplicada em
torno de um projeto de design. A abordagem do projeto é baseada em métodos e
ferramentas de pesquisa visual, estudos de caso, estudos de local, estudos de forma e
maqueta em escala e modelagem 3D virtual.
Produção: A produção do projeto será apresentada como uma elaboração do modelo
de processo de design para acompanhar a evolução da proposta de design do conceito
à solução final. Este relatório de projeto discutirá cada estágio do processo de design,
delineando a estratégia adotada para apoiar a abordagem de pesquisa aplicada. O
projeto final será apresentado na forma de esboços de estudo, estudos de maquetas de
volume, proposta de projeto final e renderizações virtuais fotorrealistas. A produção
também será visualizada em realidade virtual (RV) para obter uma experiência imersiva
em escala real do design final. A contribuição deste estudo de projeto é fazer uma
contribuição acadêmica para os desafios habitacionais da realidade urbana
contemporânea de baixa renda da Europa do século XXI.
Aim: This work explores the revitalization and exploitation of wasted urban pockets for low cost housing for the low income European housing market. Scarcity and degeneration of contemporary urban spaces is an emerging challenge towards citizens who want to access permanent, safe, and modern housing solutions. The revitalization of wasted urban spaces could be the solution to this problem. Background: Wasted urban pockets refer to pockets of underutilized, unused, and unsafe locations which could be revitalized by proposing housing solutions specifically adapted to their context. Such spaces can be considered to have a negative association and in low health or “sick”. This project proposes the remodeling of these sick spaces into residential apartment structures realized through modular prefabricated construction offering revitalization for both the city and the citizens. The value proposition of such a design proposal will result from time saving (prefabricated construction), space saving (area optimization), and cost saving (efficient design). Context: The project context is located in the Atlantic City of Funchal, Madeira Island which is high density urbanized European peripheral insular geography. Approach: This thesis is structured as an applied research investigation shaped around a design project. The project approach is based on the methods and tools of visual research, case studies, site studies, scaled model form studies and virtual 3D modeling. Output: The project output will be presented as an elaboration of the design process model to accompany the evolution of the design proposal from concept to final solution. This project report will discuss each stage of the design process outlining the strategy adopted to support the applied research approach. Final designs will be presented in the form of study sketches, massing model studies, final design proposal, and photorealistic virtual renders. The output will also be visualized in virtual reality (VR) to achieve a full scale immersive experience of the final design. The contribution of this design study is to make an academic contribution to the housing challenges of the contemporary low income urban reality of 21st century Europe.
