O presente artigo tem como objectivo propor uma reflexão sobre questões ligadas à busca
de identidade na obra A árvore das palavras de Teolinda Gersão. Trata-se de observar
como o contacto entre as culturas africanas e portuguesas durante a época colonial
tiveram não só consequências na formação identitária dos povos colonizados como tam bém nas famílias portuguesas que residiam em África. As noções de alteridade, diver sidade e hibridismo serão interrogadas aqui para melhor percebermos a força criadora
da obra.
This article aims at a reflection on issues related to the search for identity in Teolinda Gersão’s The Tree of Words. It is a question of examining how, during the colonial era, the contact between African and Portuguese cultures not only had consequences for the shaping of identity of the colonized people, but as well for the Portuguese families residing in Africa. The notions of otherness, diversity and hybridism will be addressed here so as to better understand the creative power of the novel.
