Abstract(s)
This research aimed to analyse the fundamental rights of the elderly in the urban space. Among the needs of the elderly is being able to use the public road, which should give them accessibility, autonomy, and security. This concern has been materialized in several international treaties and conventions. Given the growth of the elderly population worldwide, the need to readjust cities so that public spaces are inclusive is being studied. The exploratory research was developed from documentary, bibliographic analysis, and field data collection, having as a case study the requalification of an important commercial route in the centre of Campo Grande-MS, Brazil: 14 de Julho Street. In view of the analyses carried out, it can be inferred that the universal accessibility measures carried out on the road, with the prioritization of pedestrian circulation, give greater mobility to the elderly who use the public space, reinforcing the need for its adaptation at the human scale, allowing spaces to be accessible and inclusive, no longer being a mere legal provision but rather a materialized public policy.
