O presente texto busca refletir acerca do emprego de eufemismos, ou seja, de palavras ou termos
considerados mais agradáveis ou polidos, que geralmente são adotados para se evitar ou atenuar o
vocabulário relacionado com a velhice. Em um primeiro momento, pretende-se discorrer sobre algumas
das razões para a utilização de tais recursos. Posteriormente, intenta-se examinar algumas crônicas de
autores nacionais, verificando o seu posicionamento a respeito, para avaliar a aceitação (ou não) dos
eufemismos habitualmente empregados, bem como seus impactos e contribuições para as pessoas
velhas. Para dar suporte às análises, recorre-se às contribuições de Simone de Beauvoir, Pierre Bourdieu,
Clarice Peixoto e Alda Britto da Motta, entre outros.
This text seeks to reflect on the use of euphemisms, that is, words or terms considered more pleasant or polite, which are generally adopted to avoid or mitigate the vocabulary related to old age. First, it is intended to discuss some of the reasons for using such resources. Subsequently, it is intended to examine some chronicles by national authors, verifying their position on the subject, to assess the acceptance (or not) of the euphemisms commonly used, as well as its impact and contributions to the elderly. To support the analyses, we used the contributions of Simone de Beauvoir, Pierre Bourdieu, Clarice Peixoto and Alda Britto da Motta, among others.
