Abstract(s)
intelectual.
The transition to adulthood is an important moment in the life of any person and, among other challenges, implies working. Getting the first job is an arduous task for everyone, but it becomes even more difficult for the population with intellectual disability, because there are still barriers and bias of people who works on the organizations that have not been overcome. Considering that social and socio professional skills have been increasingly valued in this context, it is fundamental to develop them too with this population, to increase their probability of starting work practice. Thus, the present study aims to understand if the intervention program "Sou Capaz – Socio-professional Skills Development Program" promotes improvements in the socio-professional skills of these people, and if these improvements are maintained over time. In this study, a sample of 10 subjects institutionalized in a PISS of Funchal was used. This research is characterized as a descriptive case study, which use a quantitative approach and a multiple probe design methodology. Two instruments were applied: the Social Skills Inventory (SSI) in an adapted form, and the Professional Social Skills Observation System (PSSOS). The results have shown that the program has contributed to some of the evolution after the intervention, in some socio-professional skills evaluated, still follow up assessments have shown that some of the improvements did not have persisted over time. Therefore, one of the main conclusions is that it is imperative to reflect and optimize the structure of psychoeducational programs for the population with intellectual disability, relying on scientific evidence.
