Este artigo tem como finalidade apresentar e discutir as bases epistemológicas consti tuintes do método de conhecimento de Paulo Freire e sua incidência prática em políticas
de educação de adultos e formas de intervenção comunitárias em Portugal. Decorrentes
da aplicação deste método, estas políticas organizadas após a revolução de 25 de abril
de 1974 e as intervenções comunitárias coordenadas no âmbito do programa de pós-
-graduação em educação da Universidade de Madeira, são exemplos práticos de que o
método e os princípios educacionais de Paulo Freire têm sido profícuos na constituição
de meios de transformação da realidade social. Trata-se de uma tentativa de contribuir
para com a análise desmistificadora da suposta falta de praticidade do método de co nhecimento de Paulo Freire e da inexistência de experiências exitosas a partir dos seus
pressupostos filosófico-pedagógicos.
This article aims to present and discuss the epistemological foundations of Paulo Frei re’s method of knowledge and its practical impact on adult education policies and forms of community intervention in Portugal. Arising from the application of this method, these policies organized after the revolution of April 25, 1974, and the community interventions coordinated within the scope of the postgraduate program in education at the Univer sity of Madeira, are practical examples that the method and educational principles of Paulo Freire have been fruitful in constituting means of transforming social reality. It is an attempt to contribute to the demystifying analysis of the supposed lack of practicality of Paulo Freire’s method of knowledge and the inexistence of successful experiences based on his philosophical-pedagogical assumptions.
