Abstract(s)
Introduction: Ageing causes physiological changes due to decreased functional reserve, such as cognitive and memory changes. Objective: to report the experience of a group of elderly women in recovering memories through artistic manifestations. Method: Over a period of four months, elderly women participated in a group that stimulated memory through art and the retrieval of personal stories. Brief Cognitive Screening Battery, 10-Point Cognitive Screener and semi-structured questionnaire were applied before and after the intervention. Results: 14 elderly women aged between 63 and 82 years participated in 15 meetings. The 10-CS test showed an increase of 22.2% with “Normal” classification after the intervention. Regarding self-perceived memory, 66.63% of the elderly women considered it “Good”, with an improvement in this classification. No significant results were obtained in the Brief Cognitive Screening Battery after the intervention. Conclusion: Due to the small sample size, this study did not present significant values in the quantitative analyses performed, however, after qualitative analysis, there was an improvement in socialization among the elderly women, a sense of well-being and an improvement in self-perceived memory. The retrieval of memories through artistic manifestations is an alternative for stimulation in a group of elderly people.
