Abstract(s)
A aprendizagem e os fatores que a influenciam são alvo de grande atenção na
literatura em variados contextos de realização. Neste quadro, caraterísticas individuais
nucleares como a personalidade proativa e a robustez mental têm recebido destaque
enquanto potenciais preditores válidos desta variável critério. O presente estudo desenvolve se no contexto desportivo e centra-se na validade preditiva da personalidade proativa em
relação à aprendizagem dos atletas federados, bem como na análise do papel mediador da
robustez mental nesta relação. Quanto à operacionalização da robustez mental, adotou-se a
linha teórica de Gucciardi, considerando esta variável um estado psicológico. Em relação à
aprendizagem (learning), partiu-se da conceptualização de prosperidade (thriving), na qual
a aprendizagem individual em conjunto com a vitalidade (vitality) constituem as duas
dimensões nucleares deste constructo. Assim, partiu-se para a análise destes efeitos no
âmbito desportivo, tendo por base uma amostra de 151 atletas federados e procedendo à
mensuração das variáveis em análise através de um design transversal com recurso à
aplicação de um questionário em formato de papel e lápis, bem como por via on-line. Os
resultados revelaram, como expectável, uma relação positiva e de magnitude forte entre
personalidade proativa e aprendizagem, suportando assim a validade deste traço de
personalidade para a predição desta variável-critério. O posicionamento da robustez mental
enquanto mediadora da relação entre personalidade proativa e aprendizagem recebeu
também suporte empírico, verificando-se que o efeito da personalidade proativa na
aprendizagem é totalmente mediado pela robustez mental. As principais implicações teóricas
e práticas destes resultados são apresentadas e discutidas.
Learning and the factors that influence that process are naturally a subject of great attention by literature in various contexts of achievement. In this context, core individual characteristics such as proactive personality and mental toughness have been highlighted as potential valid predictors of this criterion variable. The present study is developed in the sports context and focuses on the predictive validity of the proactive personality for learning skills of federated athletes, as well as the analysis of the mediating role of mental toughness in this dynamic. As for the operationalization of mental toughness, the theoretical line of Gucciardi was chosen, considering this variable a psychological state. As for learning, this study was based on the conceptualization that this, together with vitality, forms thriving. Therefore, we started to analyse these effects in the sports field, based on a sample of 151 federated athletes and proceeding to the measurement of the variables under analysis through a transversal design using a paper-and-pencil questionnaire, as well as an online version. The results revealed, as expected, a positive and strong relationship between proactive personality and learning, thereby supporting the validity of this personality trait for the prediction of this criterion variable. The positioning of mental toughness as a mediator of the bond between proactive personality and learning also received empirical support from this study, verifying that the effect of proactive personality on learning is fully mediated by mental toughness. The main theoretical and practical implications of these results are presented and discussed.
