| dc.description.abstract | A presente dissertação centra-se na análise da poética de José Agostinho Baptista, com particular atenção em Canções da Terra Distante, obra que serve como ponto de partida para uma reflexão sobre o lugar que a ilha, entendida não apenas como recorte geográfico, mas sobretudo como experiência existencial, cultural e simbólica, ocupa no imaginário do poeta. A figura da ilha, recorrente na escrita de Baptista, articula-se com diferentes dimensões temáticas tais como o registo autobiográfico e memorialista, a evocação da infância, a presença da natureza e do mar como lugares de contemplação e de pertença e a dimensão elegíaca que atravessa a escrita como modo de expressão da distância e da perda. Assim, analisa-se a temática do exílio como uma extensão da experiência insular, traduzindo tanto o afastamento físico como a perceção de desenraizamento e de procura de retorno. Paralelamente, emergem reflexões sobre a modernidade, o turismo e a forma como estes transformam a experiência insular, revelando tensões entre preservação e mudança. Este estudo procura demonstrar como a ilha, em Canções da Terra Distante, se ergue como um espaço poético plural, capaz de integrar a memória, a identidade, o exílio e a experiência individual e coletiva, projetando a insularidade para além dos seus limites geográficos. | por |
| dc.description.abstract | This dissertation undertakes an analysis of the poetics of José Agostinho Baptista, with particular emphasis on Canções da Terra Distante. This work provides the point of departure for a broader reflection on the place of the island, conceived not merely as a geographical fragment, but above all as an existential, cultural, and symbolic experience, within the poet’s imagination. The recurring figure of the island in Baptista’s writing intersects with several thematic dimensions, including the autobiographical and memorialist register, the evocation of childhood, the presence of nature and the sea as spaces of contemplation and belonging, and the elegiac tone that pervades his work as a means of articulating distance and loss. Within this framework, the theme of exile is examined as an extension of the insular condition, encompassing both physical displacement and a profound sense of uprootedness and yearning for return. Parallel to this, Baptista’s poetics engages with reflections on modernity and tourism, interrogating the ways in which these forces reshape the insular experience and expose tensions between preservation and transformation. The study thus seeks to demonstrate how, in Canções da Terra Distante, the island emerges as a plural poetic space, one capable of integrating memory, identity, exile, and the intertwining of individual and collective experience, while simultaneously projecting insularity beyond its geographical confines. | por |
