The Little Girl At The Blue-Shuttered Window is the title of a book with five short stories by Viale Moutinho that were written from seven paintings by Henrique Pousão. The inclusion of an informative text about the painter that closes the book makes his pedagogical role of education through art explicit, as advocated by the Soares dos Reis Museum. Henrique Pousão’s figure as a character or referent becomes narrative material for some of the short stories that were either inspired on his life or work. Each short story can thus be inscribed on as a possible commentary or as a frame for the pictorial composition. But the construction of The Little Girl At the Blue-Shuttered Window goes farther in this transposition of art to literature by intersecting with illustrations that José Emídio conceives as a complement to the various paintings. This analysis will focus on this three-fold movement between literature, painting and illustration.
