Abstract(s)
In the past decade, the scientific community has shown increased interest in relationship configuration, particularly in Consensual Non-Monogamy (CNM). The present study aimed to deepen understanding of the functioning and dynamics of these relationships’ configurations through a case study analysis. A qualitative methodology was adopted, randomly selecting, transcribing, and analyzing 15 episodes from the podcasts “Ramboia com Moderação” and “Amores Plurais”. The results revealed central themes such as the importance of emotional management, the need for open and honest communication, and the agreements/negotiations, established between partners. Additionally, themes of consent, honesty, trust, and flexibility emerged as essential elements for relational satisfaction and conflict reduction in CNM. This research contributes to clinical practice by providing therapists with insights into the specificities of CNM configuration, potentially improving healthcare provision for CNM individuals. It also contributes to the scientific field by offering a more detailed conceptualization of CNM functioning. There is a need for further empirical research to explore the diversity and complexities of CNM relationships.
