PICOS e a busca foi realizada nas bases Scopus; PubMed/MEDLINE; Web of Science;
EBSCOhost e APA PsycInfo.
This study aims to determine the efficacy/effectiveness of physical activity and sports interventions on anxiety and resilience in school adolescents. This is a systematic literature review with meta-analysis. The acronym PICOS was used and the search was carried out on the Scopus; PubMed/MEDLINE; Web of Science; EBSCOhost and APA PsycInfo databases. Included were intervention studies published in indexed journals in the last 10 years, with samples of adolescents aged between 10 and 19, enrolled in regular schools in any country; published in Portuguese, English or Spanish; whose interventions tested were physical activity or sports practices, whose control groups of the studies did not perform any physical activity/sport, and which assessed the outcomes of Anxiety and Resilience using validated instruments. It was observed that interventions based on physical activity and sport are effective and viable strategies for promoting the mental health of adolescents in a school context. These practices, especially when organized in an intentional and contextualized way, contribute to the development of socio-emotional skills and the strengthening of coping mechanisms to deal with the adversities of adolescence. In this sense, this study reaffirms the role of bodily practices as relevant components of intersectoral initiatives aimed at the health and comprehensive education of young people. In addition to their individual impact, these interventions have the potential to foster the building of bonds, school engagement and a sense of belonging, all of which are central to the promotion of positive mental health.
