Apesar de ser uma referência mundial no campo da Pedagogia, Paulo Freire sur ge ainda de modo periférico relativamente ao Currículo, enquanto área de estudo e
investigação. Na senda da inclusão de unidades curriculares como as Correntes (ou
Teorias) Críticas e Pós-Críticas do Currículo nos planos de formação pós-graduada
em educação da Universidade da Madeira, onde Paulo Freire é objeto de estudo
obrigatório, esta comunicação pretende fundamentar e legitimar a sua inserção no
campo dos Estudos Curriculares, pondo a tónica no questionamento que ele faz
sobre o que se ensina e por que se ensina, isto é, levando a reflexão para o nível dos
fins últimos da educação, preocupação máxima do Currículo.
Pretendemos ressaltar o muito que o Currículo deve a Paulo Freire para a sua
mudança de paradigma tecnicista e acientífico para um paradigma crítico e emancipatório, virado para as questões sociais e políticas.
Despite being a world reference in the field of Pedagogy, Paulo Freire still appears peripherally in relation to the Curriculum, as an area of study and re search. In the path of including curricular units such as Critical and Post-Critical Trends (or Theories) of the Curriculum in postgraduate education study programs at the University of Madeira, where Paulo Freire is a mandatory object of study, this paper intends to substantiate and legitimize his insertion in the field of Curriculum Studies, emphasizing the questioning he makes about what is taught and why it is taught, that is, taking the reflection to the level of the ultimate ends of education, the main concern of the Curriculum. We intend to highlight the much that the Curriculum owes to Paulo Freire for his change from the technicist and non-scientific paradigm to a critical and eman cipatory paradigm, focused on social and political issues.
