The purpose was to understand the opinion of the coaches about the importance of set plays in youth football, including differences relating to professional football, the exercises used in training, the importance of the strategic side and as foster the emergence of specialists in these plays. Six coaches with experience in the Portuguese football league were interviewed and a semi-structured interview was used as tool for data collection. The analysis and interpretation of the content of the interviews identified that the coaches feel that training set plays in youth football should have different characteristics of professional football, the training exercises in youth football should be directed to learning the game and its principles. And strategic side indicated that it is more relevant in more advanced levels and national competitions. For potentiation of talent there is needed a greater training volume of these specific set plays and also individual coaching.
