Abstract(s)
e a resiliência; c) variáveis sociodemográficas e contextuais aumentam a
Social vulnerability is a key factor in risk mitigation policies, this is because, when individuals are exposed in the same way to hazards of similar magnitude, the vulnerability degree determines the different damages and losses. However, since the concept of vulnerability is multifaceted, it becomes difficult to operationalize and measure the vulnerability of individuals. Social vulnerability has been measured, primarily, through indicators, which vary according to some investigations, and some of them seem to increase and others decrease the degree of vulnerability. The present article aims to carry out a systematic review of scientific literature on factors that increase and reduce individual’s vulnerability to natural hazards. We conducted a search in B-on e Ebsco databases and in scholar google and BVS Psicologia Brasil platforms, wich resulted in a 12 scientific articles analysis, published between 2003 and 2020. The selected studies showed that: a) social vulnerability has been essentially measured through indicators (sociodemographic and contextual variables); b) parallel to these indicators it is essential to include risk perception and resilience; c) certain sociodemographic and contextual variables increase individual´s vulnerability, while variables related to risk perception and resilience reduce the degree of vulnerability.
