Abstract(s)
O modo como um país e um povo são representados na literatura exerce um papel significativo nas imagens que outros povos deles formam. Em Im Westen nichts Neues (Erich Maria Remarque, 1929), Le Coup de Grâce (Marguerite Yourcenar, 1939) e O Mundo em que Vivi (Ilse Losa, 1943), que constituem a base desta investigação, surgidas no período entre as duas guerras mundiais, a Alemanha e os alemães assumem frequentes vezes imagens estereotipadas, algumas delas influenciadas pela propaganda posta a circular na imprensa nacional e estrangeira. A comparação dessas representações oferece-nos uma perspectiva alargada de como os estereótipos da Alemanha e dos alemães, incluindo o povo judeu, se disseminaram na opinião pública e contribuíram para a formação de determinadas crenças e conceitos, alguns dos quais se poderão ter mantido ao longo do séc. XX.
The way a country and a people are portrayed in literature plays a significant role on the image that other peoples/nationalities perceive of them. In Im Westen nichts Neues (Erich Maria Remarque, 1929), Le Coup de Grâce (Marguerite Yourcenar, 1939), and O Mundo em que Vivi (Ilse Losa, 1943), that serve as a foundation for this study, and that were published in the period between the two world wars, representations of Germany and its people are often stereotyped, some of them influenced by the propaganda circulating on national and foreign press. Comparing those representations presents us with a broad perspective on how stereotypes of Germany and the Germans, including the Jewish people, have spread through the public opinion and contributed to the formation of certain beliefs and concepts, some of which might have endured throughout the 20th century.
