- Compound Poisson processes: potentials, Green measures and random timesPublication . Yuri Kondratiev; José L. da Silva; Luís da Silva, JoséIn this paper we study the existence of Green measures for Markov processes with a nonlocal jump generator. The non-singular jump kernel has no second moment and satisfies a suitable condition on its Fourier transform. We also study the same problem for certain classes of random time changes Markov processes with jump generator.
- Simultaneous microextraction of pesticides from wastewater using optimized μSPEed and μQuEChERS techniques for food contamination analysisPublication . García-Cansino, Laura; Ángeles García, María; Marina, María Luisa; Câmara, José S.; Pereira, Jorge A. M.; Câmara, José; Augusto Machado Pereira, JorgeFood contamination with pesticides poses significant risks to consumer safety and undermines confidence in food supply chains. Detecting pesticides in food samples is a challenging task that requires efficient extraction techniques. This study aims to compare and validate two micro extraction techniques, μSPEed and μQuEChERS-dSPE, for the simultaneous extraction of eight pesticides (paraquat, thiabendazole, asulam, picloram, ametryn, atrazine, linuron, and cymox anil) from wastewater samples. A good analytical performance was obtained for both method ologies, with selectivity, linearity in the range 0.5–150 mg L− 1 with coefficients of determination up to 0.9979, limits of detection (LODs) and limits of quantification (LOQs) ranging from 0.02 to 0.05 mg L− 1 and from 0.06 to 0.17 mg L− 1 , respectively, precision below 14.7 mg L− 1 , and re coveries from wastewater samples in the range of 66.1–99.9%. The developed methodologies are simpler, faster, and require less sample and solvent volumes than conventional methodologies, having a lower impact on the environment. Nevertheless, the μSPEed approach was found to be more efficient, easier to perform, and with a higher greener profile. This study highlights the potential of microextraction techniques for the analysis of pesticide residues in food and envi ronmental samples. Overall, it presents a fast and efficient method for the analysis of pesticides in wastewater samples, which can be useful for monitoring and controlling pesticide contamination in the environment.
° Ciclo do Ensino BásicoPublication .
- Exploring the potential of microextraction in the survey of food fruits and vegetable safetyPublication . Berenguer, Cristina V.; García-Cansino, Laura; Ángeles García, María; Marina, María Luisa; Câmara, José S.; Pereira, Jorge A. M.; Câmara, José; Augusto Machado Pereira, JorgeThe increasing demand for food to feed an exponentially growing population, the fast evolution of climate changes, how global warming affects soil productivity, and the erosion of arable lands, create enormous pressure on the food chain. This problem is particularly evident for fresh fruits and vegetables that have a short shelf life. For this reason, food safety precautions are not always a priority and they are often overused to increase the productivity and shelf life of these food commodities, causing concerns among consumers and public authorities. In this context, this review discusses the potential of microextraction in comparison to conventional extraction approaches as a strategy to improve the survey of food safety requirements. Accordingly, selected examples reported in the literature in the last five years will focus on the detection and quantification of pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, and preservatives in fresh fruits and vegetables using different extraction approaches. Overall, the use of microextraction techniques to survey the presence of contaminants in the food chain is very advantageous, involving simpler and faster protocols, reduced amounts of solvents and samples, and consequently, reduced waste produced during analysis while conserving a high potential for automation. Additionally, this higher greener profile of the microextraction techniques will boost a progressive substitution of conventional extraction approaches by microextraction processes in most analytical applications, including the survey of food chain safety.
Mendes, João Leandro Gouveia; Aveiro, David Sardinha Andrade deData is currently one of the most important and critical assets of an organization. Its exploration and analysis is an asset in supporting decision making. This volume is growing exponentially and access to this information in a timely manner can make all the difference in the organizational context. This means that organizations must be agile and often make complex, less intuitive and more information-based decisions, whether they are strategic, tactical, or operational decisions. In this master’s thesis in Software Engineering, a Business Intelligence (BI) functionality management sys tem was developed to support the strategic management of the opensource DISME (”Dynamic Information System Modeler and Executer”) software developed in the En terprise Engineering Lab at ARDITI. The system integrates dashboards, data analysis and exploration components, providing users with a simple and user-friendly interface. The results of the study demonstrated the effectiveness of the system in terms of its ability to integrate and manage different BI tools, resulting in more informed decision making. This solution is well suited to meet the requirements of organizations looking to integrate BI capabilities, especially on low-code platforms, providing a scalable and functional solution.
- The fingerprint of fortified wines—From the sui generis production processes to the distinctive aromaPublication . Perestrelo, Rosa; Jaouhari, Yassine; Abreu, Teresa; Castillo, Mariangie M.; Travaglia, Fabiano; Pereira, Jorge A. M.; Câmara, José S.; Bordiga, Matteo; Perestrelo, Rosa; Augusto Machado Pereira, Jorge; Câmara, JoséThe fortified wines that originated in Mediterranean countries have, in common, a high alcohol content to increase their shelf-life during long journeys to northern Europe and the American continent. Nowadays, the world’s better-known wines, including Marsala, Madeira, Port, and Sherry, due to their high alcoholic content, sweet taste, and intense aromatic profile, are designated as dessert wines and sometimes served as aperitifs. This review gives an overview of the traditional vinification process, including the microbiota and autochthonous yeast, as well as the regulatory aspects of the main Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish fortified wines. The winemaking process is essential to defining the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that characterize the aroma of each fortified wine, giving them an organoleptic fingerprint and “terroir” characteristics. The various volatile and odorous compounds found in fortified wines during the oxidative aging are discussed in the last part of this review.
