While it is true that learning is a phenomenon that is highly influenced by shar ing, working both, artifacts and people, with whom we are like “scaffolding” for its construction, it is also a situated process. According to Lave and Wenger, this concept of situated learning reinforces the importance of the cultural context of the individual, and learning cannot occur in a void of content, because the greater the connection of the individual to the context where it occurs the better it will be. In some ways, communities of practice function as an increasingly common learning process by promoting a kind of situated learn ing. This learning is situated in a common practice and it is through involvement in social practice that we learn and become who we are. These new perspectives on learning value aspects such as learning in practice, knowledge management, associated with processes of collaboration and coopera tion that can occur either in person or through the network.
